National Ice Hockey League home fixture between the Sheffield Steeldogs and the Hull Seahawks at the Bauer Arena.
Sheffield Steeldogs take on the Hull Seahawks at the Bauer Arena on Sunday 2 January, a home fixture in the NIHL National division. It's a New Year's Day weekend clash, so it's one of the first chances to get back to the rink after the Christmas break.
For those who don't know them, the Seahawks have been around since 1988, when they were known as the Humberside Seahawks. They're based at the Hull Ice Arena and compete in the Planet Ice NIHL National Division as well as the Yorkshire Cup. They describe themselves as a fast-rising force in British ice hockey, combining passion, performance and community spirit into high-octane, family-friendly entertainment.
There's a fair bit going on around the club beyond the games. They run a Supporters Club and a community event called 'Air The Bear'. Ian Lamb is their Honorary President, and they've named Sam Towner as their first-ever captain. They also have a development partnership with Manchester Storm that continues to feed the squad, and they've signed record-breaking forward Alex Rushby on a two-way deal.
