Robert Arkins, star of The Commitments, brings his Commitments band to mark the film's 35th anniversary, with support from DJ Jacqui Carroll.
Robert Arkins brings his Commitments band to Network on Thursday 29 October, part of a tour marking the 35th anniversary of Alan Parker's The Commitments. Arkins was the original star of the award-winning Irish film, where he played the wiley band manager Jimmy Rabbitte, and he's back on stage with his own Commitments band brought over from Dublin.
The set runs through the film's hits, with 'Mustang Sally', 'Nowhere To Run', 'Try A Little Tenderness', 'Midnight Hour' and 'Destination Anywhere' all in the mix. Beyond the movie songs, they'll be playing cuts from the Detroit Soul and Northern Soul eras, with artists like Jackie Shane and Eddie Floyd on the list. It's a soul and R&B night that leans into the sound the film helped make famous.
