If you have been waiting for a proper Oktoberfest in Sheffield, tonight is the night. The festival is back at Earls Yard, and it is worth noting one change before you set off: because of the weather, the whole thing has been moved indoors to Network 2. The doors open at 6:00 pm and it runs through to 11:00 pm, so there is plenty of time to settle in.

Right at the start, there is something you need to know. This is a strictly 18+ event, so it is not one to bring the younger ones along to. If you are of age, tickets start at £12, and there is a Stein Ticket upgrade for £15 that covers admission and a free stein, which is the obvious choice if you are planning on doing the night properly. You can book through Fatsoma using the 'Check Tickets & Live Prices' button on the event page, so it is worth sorting that before you head down.
The music is a big part of the evening. The Käse Chiefs are headlining, a six-piece Bavarian German oompah band from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, and they are exactly what you would expect from the name. Their set is built around traditional German party music, singalongs and high-energy entertainment, and the repertoire runs from proper oompah and marches to Christmas music and pop hits, so it is the kind of set that tends to get everyone involved rather than just sitting back.
On the food and drink side, it leans into the theme. There is German beer served in traditional steins, and the food is classic Oktoberfest fare, with bratwurst and pretzels at the centre. Beyond that, there are street food options from Earl's Kitchen and Pieminister, so there is something to eat whether you want to stick to the German theme or not. Between the beer, the bratwurst and the oompah, the ingredients of a good Oktoberfest are all there.
It is not just about sitting and drinking, either. There are interactive games, competitions and prizes running throughout the evening, which gives the night some shape beyond the music and the food. If you are the type who likes a bit of friendly competition alongside a beer, that is the part to look out for.
As for the weather, the forecast for the day is overcast with a temperature of around 11°C, which is exactly why the move indoors makes so much sense. Instead of fighting the cold, you get to stay warm and dry inside Network 2 while the oompah keeps things lively. With the music, the food and the games all under one roof, it shapes up to be a full night out rather than a quick drink.
So, if you are in Sheffield tonight and fancy a bit of Bavarian spirit without leaving the city centre, Earls Yard is the place to be. Just remember the 18+ rule, grab your ticket early, and settle in for a proper oompah evening.
