A darkly funny and imaginative play by Keiko Green about a family facing cancer and climate change, blending fantastical storytelling with heartfelt drama.
Keiko Green brings her new play, You Are Cordially Invited to the End of the World!, to the Leo K. Theater at Seattle Rep starting May 13, 2027. It runs through June 13, with the official opening on May 19 and a possible extension through June 20. Green is a Seattle favorite, and this one is directed by Johamy Morales.
The story centers on the Murphy family, whose lives are thrown into chaos when M, a sharp-witted 20-year-old drag performer, discovers their father Greg has stage-four pancreatic cancer. Greg spends his sleepless nights watching nature documentaries, and as he does, he becomes convinced that he is the Earth itself. He sees both himself and the planet as being taken down by their own 'Big C's': his cancer and climate change. From there, the play blends fantastical storytelling with heartfelt family drama, and the surreal moments keep coming—expect surprise visits from figures like Greta Thunberg and extinct-animal support groups. It's the kind of show that asks you to party like it's the apocalypse.

On the practical side, it runs about 90 minutes with no intermission, so you're in and out in one go. It's recommended for ages 14 and over. The run starts May 13 at the Leo K. Theater, with the opening night on May 19 and the current closing set for June 13, though it might stay on the stage through June 20.
