Grammy-winning jazz fusion band Yellowjackets perform live at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley in Seattle.
Yellowjackets are playing Dimitriou's Jazz Alley on Tuesday, October 6, and Wednesday, October 7, with both sets starting at 7:30 PM. Doors open at 6:00 PM each night. It's a two-night run in Belltown, so you have a couple of chances to catch them.
If you're not familiar, the Yellowjackets are Grammy-winning jazz fusion icons with a 43-year history that spans 26 albums, two Grammy wins, and 16 nominations. They formed in the late 1970s as the backup band for guitarist Robben Ford and recorded their first album together in 1980. Since then, they've built a following on a sound that blends jazz, rock, and pop, known for complex grooves, fearless improvisation, and timeless melodic mastery. They've spent decades reinventing themselves through an electro-acoustic soundscape and are well known for their energetic live performances.
The current lineup features Russell Ferrante on keyboards and piano, Bob Mintzer on sax and EWI, Will Kennedy on drums, and Australian bassist Dane Alderson, whose rhythmic sensibility and groove bring a new energy to the group. Their more recent work has continued to draw attention: Jackets XL with the WDR Big Band earned a Grammy nomination in 2021, and 2022's Parallel Motion was nominated for Best Jazz Instrumental Album.
