College football match between the University of Washington Huskies and the Iowa Hawkeyes at Husky Stadium.
The University of Washington Huskies take on the Iowa Hawkeyes at Husky Stadium on Friday, October 9, 2026. It's a cross-country matchup that brings a Big Ten program into the Pacific Northwest, and for Iowa, it's a return to Montlake they haven't seen in 63 years.
Both programs have deep roots. Washington's football dates back to 1889, and they've since claimed 17 conference championships, seven Rose Bowls, and two national titles, in 1960 and 1991. Their fiercest rivalry is with the Washington State Cougars, a matchup they've contested as the Apple Cup since 1900. Iowa's varsity program also started in 1889, and they've been a Big Ten member since 1900, winning five national championships along the way. One of the most storied names in their history is halfback Nile Kinnick, who won the Heisman Trophy in 1939 and died in World War II service; Iowa Stadium was renamed in his honor in 1972.
The game is at Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium, which opened in 1920 and seats 70,083. It's one of the few stadiums in the country that sits right on the water, and with over 70,000 seats, it's built for a crowd. Iowa's home stadium, now named for Kinnick, holds 69,250, so the two programs are playing on nearly identical scales.
