The Head and The Heart performs with the Seattle Symphony at Benaroya Hall, celebrating the 15th anniversary of their debut album.
The Head and The Heart play Benaroya Hall on Friday, October 18, joined by the Seattle Symphony. It's a one-night-only show, and the set is built around a specific anniversary: the band is playing their 2011 self-titled debut album in its entirety. Around that, they'll slot in the songs most people know, like "Honeybee" and "Let's Be Still," along with a few favorites from their newest record.
For context, The Head and The Heart started here in Seattle in 2009 as an indie folk rock sextet. They've put out platinum singles like "Honeybee" and "All We Ever Knew," and their debut album is the one that put them on the map. This performance marks 15 years since that record came out, so playing it from start to finish is the core of the night. The newer material comes from Aperture, their sixth album and their first since signing to Verve Forecast. Frontman Jonathan Russell has talked about how his songwriting process changed after 2022's Every Shade of Blue, and that shift is what led to Aperture.
The Seattle Symphony is the other half of the bill. Led by Music Director Xian Zhang, the orchestra has won five Grammy Awards and was named Gramophone's 2018 Orchestra of the Year. They're playing alongside the band, so you'll hear the songs backed by a full symphony rather than just the sextet on their own. Benaroya Hall has been the Symphony's home since 1998 and is the most-visited performing arts venue in the city.
