The Dusty 45s, a long-standing fixture of the Seattle rockabilly scene, perform live at Tractor Tavern with support from Heels to the Hardwood.
The Dusty 45s play Tractor Tavern on Wednesday, November 25, with Heels to the Hardwood opening. It's a local show that arrives just a few days after the band puts out a new record, All the Beauty In Between, which drops on November 22. The album was conceived by frontman Billy Joe Huels during the 2020 pandemic and produced by Ryan Leyva, who also goes by Johnny Nails, at Seattle's Studio Litho.
If you've never run into them, the Dusty 45s have been a fixture of the Seattle scene for nearly three decades. They started out in the smoky back rooms of the city's dive bars and worked their way up to national stages. The current lineup, which they call 'Dusty Version 6.0', is fronted by singer-songwriter Billy Joe Huels, with Kohen Burrill on drums and vocals, Robin Cady on upright bass, and Rod Cook on lead guitar and vocals. Over the years they've shared stages with Adele, Brandi Carlile, Wanda Jackson, and John Prine, and Seattle Weekly readers voted them 'Best of Seattle' three years in a row.
There's a rockabilly thread running through their history. In 2007, Huels starred as Buddy Holly in the 5th Avenue Theater's production of The Buddy Holly Story. Later, the band backed Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Wanda Jackson, 'The Queen of Rockabilly', on her Jack White-produced record and toured the West with her. That connection to the roots of rock and roll sits right alongside the new material they'll be playing from All the Beauty In Between.
