The Black Angels return to the road to perform their debut album 'Passover' in full alongside their greatest hits, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the record.
The Black Angels play The Showbox on Sunday, November 8, with GHOSTWOMAN opening. The set is a double feature: they're playing their debut album, Passover, in full, and then adding their greatest hits on top of it.
Passover came out in 2006, so this tour marks its 20th anniversary. It's the record that helped define the 21st-century psych revival, and hearing it played straight through is a good way to see where they started. The band on stage will be Alex Maas on vocals and bass, Christian Bland on guitar, Stephanie Bailey on drums, Jake Garcia on guitar, and Misti Hamrick on bass.
They formed in Austin, Texas, in 2004 and have since become one of the most influential bands of the modern psychedelic rock movement. Their sound draws on forebears like Syd Barrett, Roky Erickson, Arthur Lee, and The Velvet Underground. They also founded Austin Psych Fest, now known as Levitation, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary. Since Passover, they've released albums like Death Song (2017) and Wilderness of Mirrors (2022) on Partisan Records, and they continue to channel classic psychedelia into a dark, modern, and deeply powerful form.
