The Animeros, a genre-blending band mixing bolero, psychedelia and cumbia, perform live with guest band Vallenato Panamericano at Hidden Hall.
The Animeros play Hidden Hall on Sunday, October 11, with Vallenato Panamericano opening. The show is presented by Hidden Hall and The PBJ.
The Animeros are an Austin band that pulls from a wide stretch of Latin American and American sounds. They describe their music as drifting between the lush jungles of Colombia, the palm-lined streets of 1960s coastal Mexico, and the dusty cantinas of West Texas, with bolero, psychedelia, and cumbia as the main threads. The name itself comes from the Colombian shamans who were said to usher lost souls to their peace.
That mix comes from the three people in the band. Nicolas Sanchez brings his Colombian roots and the salsa and cumbia his parents played. Mauro Lopez draws from a record collection that runs from traditional Tejano to improvised jazz. Nick Tozzo's own love of jazz and salsa led him to study and live in Colombia. Together, they're Nick Tozzo, Nicolas Sanchez, and Mauro Lopez.
