Australian indie rock band Swapmeet makes its USA debut with new material at the Seattle venue Baba Yaga.
Swapmeet make their USA debut at Baba Yaga on Sunday, October 11, starting at 7 PM. It's a four-piece from South Australia—Venus O'Broin, Joshua Doherty, Maxwell Elphick, and Jack Medlyn—and they're bringing new material with them.
They've been playing together since they were teenagers in the early 2020s, cutting their teeth in the Adelaide music scene. They cite Pavement and Sonic Youth as early influences, and you can hear that lineage in the sound: indie rock at its core, but with a streak of sonic experimentation and a punk spirit. They're based on unceded Kaurna land in Adelaide, and they've built a reputation for a playful, chaotic onstage presence that doesn't always play it safe.
Their recorded output has come in steady steps. They put out their debut single in late 2023, followed by their debut EP, Oxalis, in mid-2024. That record earned them nods from Rolling Stone Australia and Triple J, and picked up the Emerging Artist & Best Performance award at SXSW Sydney. Since then, they've caught the ear of the American indie label Winspear and are currently readying their debut album, so this first US show arrives while they're still in the middle of that transition from EP to full-length.

Between the Oxalis songs and the new material they're working on, the set should give a good sense of where they've been and where the album is heading. The show is at Baba Yaga, 124 S Washington St, Seattle, WA 98104, on Sunday, October 11, starting at 7 PM.
