Solo concert by jazz guitarist Stanley Jordan at The Triple Door, featuring his innovative two-handed tapping technique.
Stanley Jordan plays solo at The Triple Door on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. It's a one-man show, so the whole night is just him and his guitar.
If you're not familiar with how he plays, it's worth knowing before you go. Jordan is a classically trained pianist who switched to guitar at eleven and eventually brought piano principles to the fretboard. He developed a touch technique—an advanced form of two-handed tapping—that lets him play melody and chords at the same time, rather than the usual strumming and picking. He describes the result as a single instrument with a wide range of tonal colors, capable of unprecedented independence between the hands, or even of playing two guitars or guitar and piano at once.
That background explains why a solo set works for him. He's not just playing lead lines over a backing track; he's handling the melody and the harmony himself. It's a career that took off in 1985 with commercial and critical acclaim, and he's played in more than 60 countries since then. He's a Princeton music graduate with four Grammy nominations and a discography that includes Touch Sensitive (1982), Magic Touch (1985), Stolen Moments (1991), and Uncut Gems (2003).
