Monthly Sunday songwriting meetup with breakout rooms, guest speakers and community music-making at Kerry Hall in Capitol Hill.
Songwriters Rooms is back at Kerry Hall on Sunday, November 15, from 2 PM to 6 PM. It's a monthly songwriting meetup hosted by STG in Capitol Hill, built to bring musicians from different backgrounds together to co-create. The whole point is to dismantle the barriers that usually keep the city's music scene siloed and give emerging artists a space to work with people they wouldn't normally cross paths with.
Each session follows the same format, so you know what to expect. It starts with guided creative exercises to get everyone in the headspace to write, then moves into breakout rooms where you'll be paired up with one or two other people to actually write something. A guest artist stops by to share their own process, and the afternoon wraps up with group share-outs, where you can hear what everyone came up with. Amps, pianos, a PA, and mics are all provided, so you don't have to lug your own gear in.
It's recommended for ages 18 and older. Some experience is helpful, but you don't need to be a pro to join in. If the cost is a hurdle, scholarships are available for those who can't cover the fee. Pre-registration is required, so you'll want to sign up ahead of time rather than just showing up.

This is part of a longer run: the next session is December 6, and the series continues into 2027 with a two-day workshop on January 9 and 10, followed by dates on February 7, March 7, April 11, May 2, June 6, July 11, and August 15. Each class is $20 plus fees, and you can find the registration and full schedule at stgpresents.org.
