Concert by the French rock and stoner metal trio SLIFT, performing their album 'Fantasia' at Neumos.
SLIFT play Neumos on Tuesday, October 20, bringing their brand of space rock and stoner metal to Seattle. The French trio is led by brothers Jean and RĆ©mi Fossat, with drummer Canek Flores ā a friend since high school ā rounding out the lineup.
Their previous albums were sprawling, genre-fusing fantasies built for improvisation, but their fourth record, Fantasia, is their leanest and most direct to date: a pointed saga about overcoming international upheaval. Writing the core of the album, Jean Fossat drew on the fiction of the Argentinian author Jorge Luis Borges, whose work he admired; the band even borrowed the song title "Orbis Tertius" from him. Across eight songs, the album traces an imagined town plagued by xenophobia and oppressive uniformity, with hope beginning to emerge in the back half.

It's a shift in focus from the more open-ended, improvisational approach of their earlier records, and Fantasia is the material they're touring. The show is for ages 21 and over, so keep your ID handy. Doors open at 7 PM at Neumos.
