A month-long horror film series presented in collaboration with Scarecrow Video, featuring three vintage horror classics including Deep Red, Ringu, and Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
Scarecrowber returns to the SIFF Film Center this October, running from October 14 through October 28. It's a month-long horror series presented in collaboration with Scarecrow Video, Seattle's non-profit video archive—a movie-lovers mecca with more individual titles available to rent than anywhere in the world and a maniacally knowledgeable staff. To mark the series, SIFF dubs Scarecrowber the official 10th month of the year, and the Scarecrow staff hand-pick the horror films.
This year's program brings together three vintage horror classics from different corners of the globe. It kicks off on October 14 with Deep Red (Italy, 1975), Dario Argento's 127-minute giallo. A week later, on October 21, comes Ringu (Japan, 1998), Hideo Nakata's 96-minute ghost story. The series wraps on October 28 with Invasion of the Body Snatchers (USA, 1978), Philip Kaufman's 115-minute alien invasion. Between them, they cover a slasher, a ghost story, and an alien invasion.
The screenings take place at the SIFF Film Center, a 90-seat jewelbox cinema on the Seattle Center campus. Its seats were rescued from the balcony of the former Seattle Cinerama Theatre, which is now SIFF Cinema Downtown. Half the proceeds from every ticket go toward supporting Scarecrow Video.
