Concert by Old Iron, a heavy doom and atmospheric sludge metal trio from Seattle, with support from Semuta.
Old Iron are playing Add-a-Ball Amusements on Sunday, October 18, with Semuta opening. It's a Seattle band playing a Seattle room, and if you've never caught them live, this is a good place to start.
Old Iron is a heavy doom and atmospheric sludge metal trio that's been around since 2011. They've put out music through Good to Die Records and Satanik Royalty Records, and their sound is built on crushing, low-tuned riffs, dissonant melodic leads, and aggressive vocals. They describe it as blending the bleak atmosphere of traditional sludge with a driving, urgent power—the slow, heavy side of the genre meeting something that actually moves forward.
Since they're a trio, that sound comes from three people on stage, and the low tuning is a big part of it. If you're into doom or sludge, you know the drill: the riffs sit low and heavy, and the dissonant leads cut through the middle. Semuta opens the night, so there's a full bill of heavy music on the one.
