An immersive edutainment exhibition that walks visitors through simulated crime scenes of notorious serial killers, including Ted Bundy and Gary Ridgway, using physical archives and virtual reality.
Mind of a Serial Killer: The Experience is running at Pacific Place through November 15, having opened back in June. It's presented by Exhibition Hub, which puts on more than 350 immersive edutainment exhibitions worldwide, in partnership with Fever.
The show walks you through nearly 20 simulated crime scenes from some of the world's most notorious serial killers. Two of them are local to Washington state: Ted Bundy and Gary Ridgway, known as the Green River Killer. Rather than a haunted house, the experience is built around physical archives, timelines, and case files, alongside psychological profiling and a virtual-reality investigation that puts you in the shoes of law enforcement. Press reviews have described it as an investigative deep dive rather than a sensationalist attraction, with an explicit aim to educate rather than sensationalize.
Former King County Prosecuting Attorney Anne Bremner, who worked the cases of both Bundy and Ridgway, notes that the display shows how detectives solved complex cases with the limited technology of the time—telephones, manual typewriters, and eyewitness identification—long before DNA. There's also a long hallway of chalkboards where visitors can write tributes to the victims.
