Militarie Gun perform live at Neumos, with support from Softcult, Shady Nasty and Dazy.
Militarie Gun play Neumos on Friday, October 9, bringing their new album God Save The Gun to Seattle. It's a full bill, too: Softcult, Shady Nasty, and Dazy all open for them, so you'll get four bands in one night.
If you're not familiar with the project, it's led by Los Angeles multi-instrumentalist Ian Shelton, who also fronts Regional Justice Center. Militarie Gun started in 2020 as a creative outlet when touring for Regional Justice Center was cancelled during the pandemic. Shelton built it around the Bay Area punk he grew up on—Dead Kennedys, Anti-Flag, Rancid, and Blink-182—with Minutemen, Bad Brains, and Hüsker Dü in the mix. The 2021 EP All Roads Lead to the Gun got a Grammy.com mention for its use of acoustic guitar and Mellotron, and Shelton is the album's protagonist, drawing on his own struggles with addiction. He's also a filmmaker who has directed videos for Angel Du$t and Bayside, and an outspoken advocate for incarcerated people.
The band consists of guitarists William Acuña and Kevin Kiley, bassist Waylon Trim, and drummer David Stalsworth. For the new record, they brought in collaborators like songwriter Phillip Odom, James Goodson of Dazy, and Nick Panella of MSPAINT, with producer Riley MacIntyre at the helm. The cover art depicts Shelton as a cult leader, a nod to the idea of the charismatic rock-and-roll messiah.
