Members opening party for the exhibition A Ballard Story: Pacific Fishermen with drinks, hors d'oeuvres and remarks from the guest curator.
The National Nordic Museum is hosting a members opening party on Wednesday, October 7, from 6 PM to 8 PM, to kick off A Ballard Story: Pacific Fishermen. It's a first look at the exhibition before it opens to the general public on October 9, so if you're a member, this is your chance to get in a couple of days early. The evening includes drinks, light hors d'oeuvres, and remarks from the exhibition's guest curator.
A Ballard Story: Pacific Fishermen traces the history, resilience, and ongoing evolution of Seattle's maritime industries through Pacific Fishermen, Inc., one of Ballard's last working shipyards and a living symbol of the neighborhood's working waterfront. For more than 150 years, the site has connected generations of shipbuilders, fishermen, maritime workers, and families whose livelihoods have been tied to the waters of Salmon Bay. As Ballard has transformed around it, Pacific Fishermen has remained a powerful example of continuity, adaptation, and community.
The exhibition brings that history to life through immersive design, historic photography, oral histories, interactive elements, artifacts, and contemporary perspectives. Together, they connect visitors to the people, industries, and communities that shaped Ballard and continue to shape Seattle today. It's as much about the neighborhood's past as it is about how that legacy still lives on the waterfront.
