Concert featuring the Oakland duo MEERNAA alongside Meat Hair, Paul Spring and Steven Van Betten at the historic Conor Byrne Pub.
MEERNAA headlines Conor Byrne Pub on Friday, October 23, with Meat Hair, Paul Spring and Steven Van Betten. The night is built around MEERNAA, the project of Oakland songwriter Carly Bond, who formed the duo with keyboardist Rob Shelton in 2015. Both work as engineers at John Vanderslice's Tiny Telephone recording studio, and Bond's songs pull from neo-soul, classic R&B and indie-pop, with Sade, Cate Le Bon, Minnie Riperton and Talk Talk listed as influences.
Sharing the bill is Meat Hair, an improv band. Paul Spring is a songwriter and guitarist who has put out seven albums in the last five years, moving across classical, electronic and guitar-based folk; among them is Vita Brevis, an album of original music sung entirely in Classical Latin. Steven Van Betten is a songwriter from Blue Diamond, Nevada, whose lyrics draw on the American West and whose solo shows he describes as vulnerable and brutally honest.
