Indie folk troubadour Matt Pond PA performs with indie rock band Bathtub Cigs at Ballard Homestead.
Matt Pond PA plays Ballard Homestead on Thursday, October 15, with Bathtub Cigs opening. It's a double bill in the Northwest corner of the city, at 6541 Jones Ave NW.
If you're not familiar with the name, Matt Pond PA has been around for more than two decades, and he's built one of indie rock's more enduring catalogues. NPR Music describes him as an old-fashioned troubadour above all, a sleepless dreamer whose songs are humble and introspective. That's a good way to put it: the work is quiet, personal, and leans on the kind of songwriting that doesn't need a lot of noise to get its point across.
He's been at this a long time, and the records he's put out over the years range from early albums like Several Arrows Later and Emblems to fan favorites like The Dark Leaves and The Lives Inside the Lines in Your Hand. Those later ones have been praised by Pitchfork, NPR, and Rolling Stone, and his songs have found their way into television and film. He's spent the years since building a loyal following across the US and Europe, and he's shared stages with artists from all over the indie landscape. Bathtub Cigs opens the night.
