London-based indie/art rock trio Mary In The Junkyard perform live at The Barboza, following their North American headline tour.
Mary In The Junkyard play The Barboza on Saturday, November 7, as part of their North American headline tour. They're a London-based indie/art rock trio who describe their own sound as "angry weepy chaos rock," and they've built a reputation on a DIY ethos and dynamic live shows.
On stage, the band consists of Clari-Freeman Taylor on vocals, guitar, cello, viola, and violin; Saya Barbaglia on bass, viola, violin, and backing vocals; and David Addison on drums. Between them, they cover a lot of ground, switching from guitar and bass to a full string section throughout the set. The show follows the release of their debut album, Role Model Hermit, which came out in July 2026 on AMF Records, and their 2024 EP, this old house.
One of the songs you'll likely hear is "New Muscles," a track they've been touring alongside a new video. It's a lighter turn from the hushed "Candelabra" and the winding ballad "Crash Landing," built around a playful melody and rolling percussion. It became a fan favorite when they supported Wet Leg on their 2025 US tour, and the story behind it is a bit of a joke: it was originally composed on the accordion and written about drummer David Addison joining a gym. The video, shot in South-East London, shows Freeman-Taylor and Barbaglia learning Muay Thai for a fight that the band says is real.
