Talk with Marion Nestle at Town Hall Seattle, with Elliott Bay Book Company, discussing her book 'Sugar Coated' with Lisa Sutherland.
Marion Nestle comes to Town Hall Seattle on Friday, October 9, for a talk presented by Town Hall and Elliott Bay Book Company. She'll be joined on stage by former cereal executive Lisa Sutherland, and the evening centers on their new book, Sugar Coated: Unboxing the Hidden Forces Shaping America's Favorite Breakfast Food.
Nestle is the Paulette Goddard Professor of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health (Emerita) at New York University, and she's spent years writing about the politics of food, nutrition, health, and the environment. Sugar Coated is the latest in that line of work, and she's currently on tour promoting it. The pairing here is the point: Nestle brings the academic and public health perspective, and Sutherland brings the inside view from her time as a cereal executive. Together they're taking a look at the forces that shape one of the most ubiquitous parts of the American diet.
Town Hall is a gathering place in the heart of Seattle that hosts civic, arts, and educational programs in a historic building it also hires out for concerts, poetry readings, and events of all sizes. This talk is part of that mix.
