If you're coming to them now, you're catching them at a different scale than when they started. The band was founded in Los Angeles in 2010 by Ben Schneider, who had written and recorded two independent EPs, Into the Sun and Mighty, before recruiting friends Mark Barry on percussion, Miguel Briseño on bass, keyboard and theremin, and Tom Renaud on guitar. The four had first played music together at the age of 12. Their debut LP, Lonesome Dreams, arrived in 2012, followed by Strange Trails in 2015, which produced the multi-platinum single "The Night We Met" — one of Spotify's Top 40 most-streamed songs of all time. 2018's Vide Noir earned widespread critical acclaim and a Top 5 Billboard Top 200 debut. Their most recent record, 2025's The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1, took the band to its largest venues yet, including Madison Square Garden and the Kia Forum. They now draw over 32 million monthly Spotify listeners.
