Saxophonist Logan Richardson presents blues PEOPLE, a fusion of Kansas City blues, rock and modern jazz, with opening by the trio THIEFS.
Logan Richardson brings his bluesPeople project to Hidden Hall on Sunday, October 18. He's leading the ensemble on saxophone, and the night opens with the trio THIEFS.
bluesPeople is built around a specific idea: Richardson describes it as a sonic ritual where Black memory, resistance, and imagination collide. He's channeling Amiri Baraka's writings on Black music history into a fusion of Kansas City blues, rock, and modern jazz. It's not just a loose jam—the project has a clear lineage it's pulling from, and you'll hear those different threads running through the set.
Richardson isn't doing this alone. He's backed by Javier Santiago and Miles Lennox on keys and synth, Frescia Belmar on electric bass, and Ronald Bruner Jr. on drums. That's a full rhythm section to hold down the blues and rock side of things while the jazz stretches out on top. The opening act, THIEFS, is a transatlantic trio—bassist Keith Witty, saxophonist Christophe Panzani, and drummer David Frazier Jr.—who play their own blend of jazz, hip-hop, and electronica. So the night starts with a trio and builds into a larger ensemble, with the saxophone as the common thread between the two sets.
