Professional jazz vocalist Jacqueline Tabor performs with her quintet at the monthly Seattle Jazz Vespers concert series.
Jacqueline Tabor and her quintet are playing Seattle Jazz Vespers on Sunday, January 3, at the Seattle First Baptist Church on First Hill. Tabor is a Seattle Jazz Hall of Fame vocalist, and her set draws deep from blues and swing roots, so you'll hear her working within the classic traditions of the jazz songbook rather than pushing into the avant-garde. The quintet provides the full band sound to back her.
If you've never been to a Jazz Vespers, the format is a bit different from your usual club date. It's a secular concert of professional jazz staged for people who love the music and an inspirational message, held on the first Sunday night of each month from October through June. The evening pairs two professional music sets with a short, non-sectarian inspirational message in between. After the music, the artists stick around to chat and run a CD table, so you can talk with them and pick up their records.
