Indie rock band Hovvdy perform live at Neumos in Seattle, with support from Emma Ogier.
Hovvdy play Neumos on Wednesday, October 14, with support from Emma Ogier. The Austin, Texas band has been around for more than a decade, and this is one of their Seattle stops.
Will Taylor and Charlie Martin started the project in Austin, and they've moved through a few different sounds since then. Their early work sat in the understated slowcore camp, and over their first five studio albums they built a sound that pulls from twangy indie rock, 2000s-inspired pop-country, and acoustic ballads with a pop sensibility. The last two records took a more direct turn: 2021's True Love was full of declarations of love, and their self-titled Hovvdy dealt with loss and personal change. Their most recent record, Big World, trades that emotional directness for more enigmatic subject matter.
Emma Ogier opens the bill. Between her and Hovvdy, you'll get two acts on one night, and the set should draw from across the band's catalog.
