A daytime program featuring a listening session with Oblé Reed, a fashion show, a panel with Ukeme Ekpoh, and a community clothing drive.
Oblé Reed is taking over the Museum of Pop Culture on Saturday, November 7, for a daytime program that pulls together music, fashion, and a community clothing drive. The whole afternoon is built around MOPOP's exhibition Styled by the Streets: Black Women in Hip-Hop Fashion, and it looks at the connection between sound and style through the work of Pacific Northwest artists.
Reed, a Seattle hip-hop artist, kicks things off at 1 PM with a listening session for his LINDENAVE! project. It's not just a playback: he'll provide live commentary, and there's a fashion show and an audience Q&A built into the session. At 3 PM, the focus shifts to a panel conversation with Ukeme Ekpoh, founder of So Pressious and a contributor to the exhibition, who'll talk through the artistry behind custom nail design. Ekpoh's nail art and equipment will be on display, and that session also opens up for a Q&A.
Running all day in the Learning Labs, Reed and his team are hosting a community clothing drive. They're collecting winter gear especially, so if you've got coats or warm clothes you're not using, this is a good place to drop them off. You can stop by for the drive and skip the programming, or come for the afternoon and bring a bag with you.
