Los Angeles-based Grateful Dead cover band Grateful Shred performs live at The Showbox, a 21+ venue.
Grateful Shred play The Showbox on Friday, March 12, 2027, starting at 8 PM. They're a Los Angeles-based Grateful Dead cover band that got its start playing the Shakedown Street vendor area before Dead and Company shows, eventually working their way up to touring the United States.
Their name became known after the Busted at the Bowl video, which caught the band starting an impromptu set in the Hollywood Bowl parking lot before a Dead and Company show in 2017, playing until the police shut them down. Bassist Dan Horne describes the project more as a "take" on the Dead than a tribute band. He says they aim to channel the group's live vibe — wide-open guitar tones, effortless three-part vocal harmonies, choogling beats and plenty of tripped-out solos — rather than functioning as a historical re-enactment.
They don't stick to the Dead, either. The band also plays Americana, blues, folk and jazz, and they released their first full studio album, Might As Well, on their own Liberty Hair Farm Records label in June 2025. They've also put out a series of live releases called Dan's Dubs.
