Solo acoustic concert by Grant Gordy, Brooklyn guitarist of the David Grisman Quintet, at Blue House Concerts.
Grant Gordy plays a solo concert at Blue House Concerts on Saturday, October 17, at 7 PM. He's a Brooklyn-based guitarist, and this is a solo date, so it'll be just him and the guitar on stage.
If you haven't come across his name, Gordy is one of the most highly regarded young instrumentalists on the American acoustic music scene. For six years, he held the guitar chair in the legendary David Grisman Quintet, and he's worked alongside names like Edgar Meyer, Steve Martin, Aoife O'Donovan, and Darol Anger. His music has reached a wide audience through NPR's Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and Tiny Desk Concerts, and he's played stages across North America and Europe, from Carnegie Hall to the Montreal Jazz Festival.
Critics have called him "preternatural," and they describe his harmonic and rhythmic knowledge as giving him a strikingly singular guitar style. That's a good way to frame what you're getting here: a solo set from a player who's spent years in some of the most respected acoustic ensembles in the country. Coming from that background, a solo show lets you hear the guitar work without the rest of the band around it.
