Concert by singer-songwriter Fruit Bats (Eric D. Johnson) at Showbox SoDo, part of the Showbox Presents series.
Fruit Bats play Showbox SoDo on Friday, October 9, with Matthew Logan Vasquez opening. The show is part of the Showbox Presents series, and it starts at 8 PM.
Fruit Bats is the moniker of Eric D. Johnson, a singer-songwriter whose output over a 25-year career has usually been the product of patience and fine-tuning. His 2025 solo record, Baby Man, changed that: he recorded it over two weeks using a stream-of-consciousness, morning-pages approach. He followed it with The Landfill, a 2026 full-band album on Merge Records, recorded at Bear Creek Studios in Washington with his band — David Dawda on bass, Josh Mease on guitars and synth, Frank LoCrasto on piano and synth, and Kosta Galanopoulos on drums — and frequent collaborator Thom Monahan producing. Johnson calls The Landfill his most collaborative record to date and the most live a Fruit Bats record has been since 2009's The Ruminant Band.

With a full band behind him, the set will lean into that live energy. The lineup on stage — Dawda, Mease, LoCrasto, and Galanopoulos — is the same one that tracked The Landfill at Bear Creek, so the songs should sound close to the record. Matthew Logan Vasquez opens the night, and the show is all ages to enter, 21 and over to drink. Doors are at 8 PM.
