Free 600 Level Student Show

Unexpected Productions is hosting a Free 600 Level Student Show on Sunday, January 25, at the Market Theater in Pike Place Market. It's a showcase for the students in their Advanced Performance 600-level class, the highest level of their improv school. These are the folks who've spent months working through the curriculum, and this is the night they step on stage to show what they've been at.

What makes the 600 level different is that the class spends its time experimenting with the same formats the company stages on its mainstage. Instead of just learning the basics, they're playing with the structures that drive the company's regular shows. The night is billed as a chance to see the improv stars of the future debut the skills they've learned, so you're catching them right as they move from the classroom to the stage.

If you're not familiar with the venue, the Market Theater is Unexpected Productions' core space, and it's where they run unscripted comedy every Friday and Saturday night. The whole thing is driven by audience suggestions that steer the narrative, so the crowd has a direct hand in where each scene goes. Across central Seattle, the company puts on fast-paced short-form improv, competitive team matches, and experimental unscripted theater, and they keep the door open for absolute beginners with introductory workshops and drop-in jam sessions.

This particular show is free or reduced-cost, supported by 4Culture. It's at the Market Theater, 1428 Post Alley, Seattle, WA 98101, on Sunday, January 25.
