Concert by Canadian singer-songwriter Fred Eaglesmith at the Tractor Tavern in Seattle.
Fred Eaglesmith is playing the Tractor Tavern on Saturday, November 14, at 2 PM. It's a matinee show, so you'll be out in time for dinner rather than heading home in the middle of the night.
Eaglesmith is a singer and guitarist who's spent decades working the alternative country circuit. He's played almost every bar and club on the North American continent, sometimes on his own and other times with his band, The Flying Squirrels. He's built a substantial following along the way, and a cult one within the alt-country scene in particular.
He describes himself as a farm boy raised in a strict Reformed household, and that background stays close to the surface in his writing. His songs center on poor farmers, racing trains, ramshackle trucks, and love affairs full of misunderstanding. It's a particular kind of storytelling—rooted in the rural and the overlooked—that doesn't change much regardless of where he's playing.

Before that, there's a bit of family history that explains the roots: born Frederick Elgersma, he's the son of an immigrant family from the Dutch province of Friesland and grew up in Ontario, Canada. He was ten when he first saw Elvis on television and wrote his first song that same day. Thirty-five years and thousands of songs later, he's still writing from that same place.
The show is on Saturday, November 14, starting at 2 PM at the Tractor Tavern, 5213 Ballard Ave NW in Seattle.
