Concert by the psych-punk band Frankie and the Witch Fingers at the Baba Yaga venue in Seattle.
Frankie and the Witch Fingers play Baba Yaga on Thursday, October 29, at 8 PM. They're a psych-punk band from Los Angeles, and if you've never seen them live, they've built their name on high-energy, frenetic shows. This is a headlining date, so they'll be the only act on the bill.
They're touring their latest album, Data Doom, which takes them into darker territory than their earlier work. The record trades in themes of technological dystopia, systemic rot, creeping fascism, and the erosion of humanity. The sound has grown heavier too, drawing on proto-punk, German progressives, and funk fusion. It's a shift toward a denser, more aggressive side of the psych-punk they're known for.
Behind the music is a four-piece lineup: Dylan Sizemore, Josh Menashe, Nikki Pickle, and Nick Aguilar. They've shared the stage with a wide range of acts over the years, from the psych-rock of Kikagaku Moyo and the garage-leaning Ty Segall and Oh Sees to the classic rock of Cheap Trick and ZZ Top. That variety shows up in the sound, tooβthe proto-punk grit, the progressive leanings, and the funk fusion all pulling in different directions at once.
