Film screening of The Lighthouse, directed by Robert Eggers, at the National Nordic Museum, in conjunction with the exhibition 'A Ballard Story: Pacific Fishermen'.
The National Nordic Museum is screening The Lighthouse on Thursday, October 29, from 6 PM to 8 PM. Robert Eggers' 2019 film follows two lighthouse keepers who struggle to keep their sanity while living on a remote and mysterious New England island in the 1890s. It's a black-and-white piece that leans hard into isolation and the slow unraveling of the two men, and seeing it on a big screen is the way it was meant to be watched.
The screening is held in conjunction with the museum's special exhibition, A Ballard Story: Pacific Fishermen, which explores the history and evolution of Seattle's maritime industry. There's a clear line between the two: the exhibition looks at the real-life working history of the Pacific Northwest's fishing fleet, and the film takes a fictional, psychological dive into the life of men working on the water. If you've been following the exhibition, the movie serves as a dark, atmospheric companion piece.
