Author Elizabeth Acevedo presents her new novel 'Anger Is Only a Shadow' with Seattle Civic poet Dujie Tahat at Town Hall Seattle.
Elizabeth Acevedo is coming to Town Hall Seattle on Monday, October 19, to talk about her new novel, Anger Is Only a Shadow. She'll be joined by Dujie Tahat, the fifth Seattle Civic poet, who's the author of Shibboleth and three poetry chapbooks, and co-host of The Poet Salon podcast with Lue Hughes and Gabrielle Bates.
If you're not familiar with Acevedo, she's the New York Times-bestselling author of The Poet X, which picked up the National Book Award for Young People's Literature, the Michael L. Printz Award, the Pura Belprรฉ Award, the Carnegie Medal, the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award, and the Walter Award. She also wrote With the Fire on High and Clap When You Land. She holds a BA in Performing Arts from The George Washington University and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Maryland, is a National Poetry Slam Champion, and lives in Washington, DC.
Her new novel, Anger Is Only a Shadow, centers on Lil, a teenager who is rebellious, loyal, and figuring out what kind of good person she wants to be. The evening will be a conversation around the book, and since Acevedo comes from a slam poetry background, there's a good chance you'll hear her read some of it aloud. Town Hall events usually run about 75 minutes.
