Funk night with Eldridge Gravy & The Court Supreme, featuring special guests Swavy and Jay Si Proof at Hidden Hall.
Eldridge Gravy & The Court Supreme play Hidden Hall on Friday, October 30, with Swavy and Jay Si Proof opening. It's a funk night in Seattle, and the headliner is a local one: Eldridge Gravy fronts the 11-piece Court Supreme, a big band that's been around since 2006.
There's a good story behind how they started. Back then, an instrumental group teamed up with a guest singer to play James Brown and Parliament covers at a moving-out party. The next morning, the house was torn down and the band was born. They've been playing together ever since, and the sound they've built blends psychedelic soul, R&B, and disco-funk, drawing on James Brown and Sly Stone. Their records run the gamut from funk to disco-funk to down-and-dirty funk, and they've put out five studio albums over the years, starting with US IS WHAT TIME IT IS in 2009 and most recently ALWAYS NEVER NOT A GOOD TIME in 2024.
