DJ Shadow performs a set focusing solely on his 1996 debut album Endtroducing, celebrating its 30th anniversary.
DJ Shadow plays the Paramount Theatre on Saturday, October 17, for a set built entirely around his 1996 debut, Endtroducing...... It's the album's 30th anniversary, and Shadow has said this will be the first time he's played a set devoted solely to it.
If you're not familiar with the record's history, it's a good place to start. Shadow put it together using an AKAI MPC60 II, turntables, and a Pro Tools rig he borrowed from Dan 'The Automator' Nakamura. The whole thing was constructed from samples, and that earned it a Guinness World Record in 2001 as the first completely sampled album. In November 2006, Time magazine named it one of the 100 best albums of all time, and it's picked up similar praise from Entertainment Weekly, The Guardian, and Alternative Press over the years. Since the set is built exclusively around that one record, you'll hear the album as a whole rather than a mix of his later work.

It's a specific way to approach a show—one record, start to finish—and since it's the first time he's done it this way, it's a bit different from his usual sets. If you've only ever heard Endtroducing on headphones, this is a chance to hear it played out in a room. The show is on Saturday, October 17, at 8 PM at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle.
