Pacific Northwest Ballet presents Director's Choice, featuring Eva Stone's F O I L, Christopher Wheeldon's This Bitter Earth, and a world premiere by Kyle Abraham.
Pacific Northwest Ballet brings Director's Choice to McCaw Hall from March 19 to 28, 2027, as part of the company's 2026/27 season. It's a triple bill that pulls from three different eras of the company's repertoire: a return of an older piece, a PNB premiere, and a world premiere.
Eva Stone's F O I L premiered at PNB on November 8, 2019, and this is its first time back on the stage since then. The music is a collection of works by Fanny Mendelssohn, Nadia Boulanger, Γlisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre, Clara Schumann, and Francesca Lebrun. Christopher Wheeldon's This Bitter Earth is a pas de deux set to a remix of Dinah Washington's "This Bitter Earth" and Max Richter's "On the Nature of Daylight," and it gets its PNB premiere on opening night. The third piece is a world premiere by choreographer Kyle Abraham, who brings his avant-garde aesthetic to PNB for the first time.
Between the three, you get a look at a few different ways of working: a piece returning after several years, a known work making its local debut, and something entirely new. The lobby opens two hours before showtime, so there's plenty of room to get settled before the curtain goes up.
