Soul-jazz and funk with special guest Karl Denson at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley.
Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio plays Dimitriou's Jazz Alley from Thursday, October 15, through Sunday, October 18, with special guest Karl Denson joining them on stage. It's a four-night run, so you've got a few chances to catch them if you can't make a specific night.
The trio describes their thing as "feel good music," and the roots are easy to trace: 1960s organ jazz in the vein of Jimmy Smith and Baby Face Willette, the soul strut of Booker T. & The M.G.'s and The Meters, and touches of Motown, Stax, blues and Jimi Hendrix-style guitar. They've been at it since 2015, putting out several Billboard-charting albums and touring widely. One performance at the Upstream Music Festival drew over 15 million views, and Delvon Lamarr himself was named Rising Star Critics Choice for Organist of the Year.
Karl Denson brings a long pedigree of his own. He leads Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, which just hit its 25th anniversary after playing everywhere from the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan to Madison Square Garden alongside James Brown. He was in the original Sexual Chocolate, featured in Coming to America, replaced Bobby Keys as saxophonist in The Rolling Stones in 2014, and is a founding member of The Greyboy Allstars. Jazz Alley has been a family-run Seattle fixture since 1979, and every seat is within 50 feet of the stage.
