Experimental hip-hop group Dälek performs at The Funhouse, supported by Lamarr Family Values and Webb Wavvy.
Dälek play The Funhouse on Thursday, October 8, with Lamarr Family Values and Webb Wavvy opening. Dälek is an experimental hip-hop group from Newark, New Jersey, formed in 1998. They're credited with pioneering noise-rap, a sound that blends dense, Public Enemy-style soundscapes with industrial drone and shoegaze textures. If you're not familiar, that's a lot of heavy, atmospheric noise layered under the rap.
Opening the night is Lamarr Family Values, a genre-fluid trio of close friends who first played together as a punk rock band in 2016. Since then they've evolved into a hip-hop project that fuses punk energy with R&B, funk and pop melodies. They call themselves "Seattle's most punctual boy band." Also on the bill is Webb Wavvy, often stylized as BiG WAVVY, a prominent underground hip-hop artist, rapper and DJ based here in Seattle. He's known for his high-energy drops and production style and is active in the Pacific Northwest urban music scene.
Between the three, the night covers a fair bit of ground: Dälek's industrial noise-rap, Lamarr Family Values' punk-inflected R&B and pop, and Webb Wavvy's high-energy underground hip-hop. It's a full bill of rap and hip-hop from three very different angles.
