A vintage video show with free prize drawings, celebrating its 16th anniversary with curated freaky film and found-footage fun.
Collide-O-Scope is celebrating its 16th anniversary at Clock-Out Lounge, with shows on the second Monday of the next few months: October 12, November 9, and December 14. It's a vintage video show that's been a Seattle fixture since 2010, and the anniversary marks over a decade and a half of the same singular format.
If you've never caught it, the premise is simple: curated vintage video, freaky film, and found-footage fun remixed and mashed into montages. The sets are packed with absurd pop-culture ephemera, obscure oddities, and a lot of music, all edited together into something that feels like a fever dream of old TV. It's the kind of thing that's hard to describe without seeing—critics have called it "half video art installation and half stoner gawkfest," and "the greatest show anywhere."
The show was started by Shane Wahlund, a former Stranger staffer, and Michael Anderson, a freelance video editor for the paper. They began by recording everything that came on television and archiving it on VHS tapes and DVD-Rs, before debuting the show at Re-bar in 2010. From there it moved through SIFF Cinema Egyptian, Central Cinema, and the Seattle Center's "Fountain of Light" exhibition, before finally settling at Clock-Out Lounge. The two have also produced video for drag superstars Dina Martina and BenDeLaCreme, and their annual Halloween screenings routinely sell out.
