Concert by the instrumental post-rock duo City of the Sun, performing their album Under the Moon.
City of the Sun play The Crocodile on Thursday, October 15, at 8 PM. They're touring their new album, Under the Moon, and the set is built around it.
If you're not familiar with them, City of the Sun is a duo—guitarist John Pita and percussionist Zach Para. They've been playing together since 2011, and they're based in Brooklyn. They play instrumental music that sits somewhere between post-rock, indie, and experimental, and they pull from a wide range of sounds: indie rock, American folk, flamenco, and blues. It's all instrumental, so there are no lyrics to lean on—just the guitar and the percussion.
Critics have described their sound as worldly and cinematic, and they've often been placed somewhere between the acoustic guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela and the post-rock of Explosions in the Sky. That gives you a decent sense of what to expect: the rhythmic, percussive energy of the former mixed with the atmospheric, building textures of the latter. With Under the Moon as the focus of the night, the set will center on the new material.
