Songwriter and singer Charles Wesley Godwin performs live at Showbox SoDo, supported by Lily Fitts, as part of The Christian Name Tour.
Charles Wesley Godwin plays Showbox SoDo on Thursday, October 22, with Lily Fitts opening. He's on the road for The Christian Name Tour, and the set will center on his latest record, Christian Name.
Godwin is a songwriter and singer from Morgantown, West Virginia, who didn't even pick up the guitar until he was around 20. He's a storyteller in the vein of Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, and Bruce Springsteen, and he's been building his catalog steadily since his debut, Seneca, came out in 2019. That was followed by How The Mighty Fall in 2021, which he recorded with his band, the Allegheny High.
His third album, Family Ties, arrived on September 22 via Big Loud Records. He demoed it on a Tascam 4-track and recorded it with producer Al Torrence at Echo Mountain in Asheville, North Carolina. It's a deeply personal collection of songs written for his own family: "Miner Imperfections" for his father, "The Flood" for his mother, "Gabriel" for his son, "Dance in Rain" for his daughter, and "Willing and Able" for his wife.

Christian Name is his fourth full-length, a 12-song collection about mourning, redemption, and faith, inspired by the loss of his third child, Samuel, in 2024. The title and the cover both come from his late grandfather, Charles Godwin, who was a Methodist preacher. Between the new material and the older records, there's a lot of ground to cover in one night.
The show starts at 8 PM at Showbox SoDo, 1700 1st Ave S in Seattle.
