A tribute concert featuring the cinematic soundscapes of Joe Hisaishi, including scores from Studio Ghibli films, performed by a string quartet under candlelight.
Candlelight: Best of Joe Hisaishi is coming to Town Hall Seattle for a run of dates through early 2027. The concert is a tribute to Joe Hisaishi, the composer whose work has defined the sound of Studio Ghibli, and the music is played by a string quartet under the glow of candlelight. It's a tribute show, so it isn't associated with or endorsed by Hisaishi himself.
The program pulls from the cinematic soundscapes Hisaishi created for some of the most beloved stories in animation. You'll hear melodies from Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro, and the set reaches further into the Ghibli catalog with Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, Kiki's Delivery Service, Ponyo, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Laputa: Castle in the Sky, The Wind Rises, and The Tale of Princess Kaguya. It's a wide sweep of his work, so if you have a favorite Ghibli film, there's a good chance its music will be on the list.
