A candlelit string quartet tribute to 90s hip-hop, featuring a medley of classics by The Fugees, Jay-Z, Nas, Outkast, and more.
Candlelight: 90s Hip-Hop on Strings comes to the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute on Sunday, October 11, with the Seattle String Quartet taking the stage. It's a tribute to the hip-hop that helped define the 1990s, played by a string ensemble under the glow of candlelight—a format that's sold out venues around the world. The evening is billed as a tribute concert experience and isn't affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the artists, their estates, or official representatives.
The program is a medley of 90s hip-hop classics. The Seattle String Quartet—also known as the Range Ensemble String Quartet—will run through a set that touches on the Fugees, Jay-Z, Nas, Outkast, Missy Elliott, A Tribe Called Quest, Wu-Tang Clan, 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg. It's a wide sweep of the decade, pulling from the East Coast, the West Coast, and the South, all translated for strings.
