Portland psychedelic jam band Bodhi Mojo performs with Seattle's The Whags at Add-a-Ball Amusements.
Bodhi Mojo are playing Add-a-Ball Amusements on Friday, October 30, with The Whags opening. It's a double bill of jam bands coming together on a Halloween night, and both groups lean into the improvisational side of things.
Bodhi Mojo is a five-piece psychedelic jam band from Portland, Oregon, formed in 2019. They're known for mind-bending improvisational jams and a motto they live by: never playing the same show twice. That's the core of what they do—taking a song and stretching it out into something new every time they step on stage. They also host their own annual Mojo Family Festival, so they've got a community built around them.
Sharing the bill is The Whags, a Seattle-based Americana and jam band formed in 2017 by childhood friends. Their sound pulls from a few different places: sunshine pop and bluegrass meet Southern-rock guitar and psychedelic funk. They've put out two LPs so far, with their sophomore record, All Along the Water There's a Mountain Song, being the most recent. Between the two bands, you've got Portland's psychedelic jam meeting Seattle's Americana-inflected jam, and both are built on the idea of playing things out on the fly.
