A tribute concert to Bob Weir featuring Bobby Shorts and Her Mountain Majesty at the Conor Byrne Pub in Ballard.
Bobby Shorts are playing a Bob Weir tribute at the Conor Byrne Pub on Friday, October 16. They'll be joined by Her Mountain Majesty, so it's a double bill of Grateful Dead-adjacent guitar work in one night. If you've spent any time around the city's jam scene, you know the territory: the long, winding songs and the kind of improvising that lets a set breathe.
For those who aren't as familiar with the name, Bobby Shorts is a tribute to Bob Weir, the rhythm guitarist and singer for the Grateful Dead. Weir's style is a specific thing—lots of jazz-inflected chords and a distinct way of playing around the beat—and that's what the night is built around. Her Mountain Majesty joins in to round out the bill, so you'll get two acts working through that same songbook.
The venue is the Conor Byrne Pub, at 5140 Ballard Avenue NW in Ballard. It's a cooperatively run live music spot that used to be The Owl, and it's been a watering hole for Seattle musicians for the last hundred years. A good number of the city's legacy acts came through its doors, and it still books both new talent and household names.
