Death metal concert featuring Arch Enemy and The Black Dahlia Murder, with support from Septicflesh, Crypta, and Thrown Into Exile.
The Black Dahlia Murder play The Showbox on Monday, November 16, with Arch Enemy sharing the bill. It's a heavy double bill, and the supporting acts—Septicflesh, Crypta, and Thrown Into Exile—mean the night starts long before the headliners take the stage.
For anyone who's followed The Black Dahlia Murder, this is a specific era of the band. The Detroit death metal outfit changed after the 2022 passing of frontman and co-founder Trevor Strnad. Co-founder Brian Eschbach moved from rhythm guitar to lead vocals, and former member Ryan Knight returned on guitar. The new lineup debuted at a tribute show in Detroit in late October 2022, and their tenth album, Servitude, marked Eschbach's recorded debut as lead vocalist and lyricist and Knight's return since 2015's Abysmal. That record gave us singles like "Aftermath," "Mammoth's Hand," and the Swedish-style waltz "Panic Hysteria."
Arch Enemy brings their own history to the pairing. Formed in Sweden in the mid-90s by former Carcass and Carnage guitarist Michael Amott, their 1996 debut Black Earth helped resurrect death metal, followed by Stigmata in 1998 and Burning Bridges in 1999. In 2001, Wages Of Sin introduced frontwoman Angela Gossow; after her departure in 2015, the band brought in former The Agonist frontwoman Alissa White-Gluz and later added Nevermore guitarist Jeff Loomis.
