Peter Shaffer's Tony and Oscar-winning play about the rivalry between Salieri and Mozart, directed by Dámaso Rodríguez.
Amadeus opens at the Bagley Wright Theater on April 14, 2027, as part of the Seattle Repertory Theatre's 2026-27 season. Before the official opening, there are preview performances from April 8 to 13, so the first time you can catch it on stage is actually a week earlier. The run goes through May 16, with a possible extension through May 23.
It's Peter Shaffer's Tony and Oscar-winning play, set in 18th-century Vienna. The story follows Antonio Salieri, the court composer, whose fierce rivalry with the brilliant and childlike Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart spirals into consuming jealousy and a moral reckoning that alters the course of music history. If that sounds familiar, it's because it's the same source material that gave us the 1984 film and the 1986 film-musical, both starring F. Murray Abraham and Tom Hulce. The play is known for its epic theatricality and lavish period design.
This production is directed by Dámaso Rodríguez. The cast includes the roles of Antonio Salieri, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Constanze Weber, Emperor Joseph II, Count Johann Kilian von Strack, Count Franz Orsini-Rosenberg, Baron Gottfried van Swieten, the two Venticelli, Teresa Salieri, Katherina Cavalieri, and a Major-Domo, plus an ensemble.
